Main Street: Murfreesboro is thrilled with the momentum of recent years; new businesses in our historic downtown, and the excitement for the substantial mixed-use development with 46 condominiums and 8,000 square feet of retail space. Twelve new businesses opened in 2007 and the downtown occupancy rate remains less than 6%. Murfreesboro has unique shops, quality restaurants, and an atmosphere of caring for the customer. A vibrant downtown, filled with people shopping, eating, meeting, relaxing, or simply enjoying themselves, is a healthy downtown.

It has been said, "The heart and soul of any community, besides its people, is its downtown. It is the litmus test for the health of a community. It should be vibrant, exciting, and a great place to hang out." Our revitalized downtown is not only attractive to visitors; it offers our community a sense of identity and a source of pride.

The number one diversionary activity for visitors is shopping, dining, and entertainment. In a pedestrian friendly setting, the downtown provides an intimate location for tourism, creating the concept of downtown as a destination. Main Street will focus on several different factors such as business mix, signage, way finding, gathering spaces, gateways, and amenities.
