The Main Street Program is a non-profit corporation designed to revitalize and maintain the downtown courthouse square area of Murfreesboro and Rutherford County. It is and follows the tenants of that program. The Main Street Program capitalized on the unique character of the courthouse square and the surrounding business district with the goal of transforming it into the cultural, social, professional and retail center of Rutherford County...in essence, the hub of the community life.

Why is Main Street and historic downtown Murfreesboro so important to the life of our community?

People consider shopping on Main Street "experience shopping," because we interact with people and our community instead of frantically hunting only for bargains. We find merchandise infused with local heritage. We are making a connection between entrepreneurial spirit and businesses that reflect the character of our community through their unique products, services and atmosphere. Located in historic buildings, these merchants preserve an authentic sense of place.

Main Street is home to character, preservation, employment, entrepreneurs, choice, an important civic forum, revitalization, tourism, community activities, and it provides an economic impact. Celebrate the beauty of historic Murfreesboro and cherish the experience of community.

Main Street: Murfreesboro/Rutherford County is a not-for-profit organization committed to maintaining, enhancing and promoting the historic downtown as the heart of our community. Affiliated with the National Trust for Historic Preservation's National Main Street Center, we focus on the four elements that help define the success of our downtown; Organization, Design, Promotion, and Economic Restructuring.
